Description

Description

Nestled in the heart of Marrakech, the Atlas Courtyard reinterprets traditional Moroccan architecture through a lens of restraint and shadow. The space revolves around an open void — a tranquil courtyard that becomes the heart of the home, where air, water, and stone speak in silence. Every element is designed to evoke calm — sunlight spilling across raw plaster, soft echoes from a distant fountain, and the scent of cedar that grounds the experience in memory.

The project began with studying local courtyard typologies and sketching light patterns over time. The team collaborated with artisans specializing in tadelakt plaster and carved cedarwood, ensuring every surface told a story of hand and heritage. Material samples were tested under desert sunlight to tune reflectivity and texture.

Atlas Courtyard demonstrates how minimalism and tradition can coexist. By using vernacular techniques with modern proportion, it achieves a timeless serenity — not through decoration, but through spatial rhythm and light modulation.
